The High-Pressure Internal Thread Connector for Manufacturing Leak Testing

The FasMate FN is FasTest’s high-pressure internal thread connector—designed to seal inside threaded bores up to 5,000 psi (345 bar) for leak testing, pressure decay testing, proof testing, and fluid transfer applications. The FasMate FN inserts into the threaded bore, expands a split collet to grip the threads, and engages an internal seal—all in a single quick motion. No wrenching into the threads, no sealant, no thread tape, and no risk of cross-threading or galling the bore.

The FasMate FN is one of FasTest’s most versatile connectors. It covers five major thread standards—NPT, BSPT, BSPP (G), metric, and O-ring boss/flare ports—in sizes from the smallest sensor bores through the recently expanded range up to 1½” NPT. Three actuation methods are available: lever handle for manual bench testing, thumb valve for one-handed operation in tight spaces, and pneumatic actuation for automated and semi-automated test stations. The FasMate FN is also available with ICON™ intelligent connection technology for digital seal verification and PLC integration.

For automotive engine testing, fluid power proof testing, aerospace component testing, and any application where high-pressure internal bore sealing is required, the FasMate FN eliminates the threaded connection entirely—replacing a slow, injury-prone, thread-damaging process with a fast, safe, and repeatable connection that protects both the operator and the part.

Split Collet Design: Grip, Seal, and Lock Without Threading

The FasMate FN’s connection mechanism is fundamentally different from a traditional threaded fitting. Here’s how it works:

  1. Insert: The operator inserts the FasMate FN nose into the threaded bore. The tapered nose guides the connector into the port with minimal effort.
  2. Grip: Actuating the lever, thumb valve, or pneumatic trigger expands the split collet outward against the bore threads. The collet grips the threads securely without cutting, galling, or deforming them.
  3. Seal: As the collet engages, an internal seal is pressed against the bore wall to create a leak-tight connection. The seal is pressure-assisted—as test pressure increases, the seal force increases proportionally.
  4. Lock: Under pressure, the FasMate FN is positively locked in the bore. The connector cannot be accidentally removed while the system is pressurized, protecting operators from unexpected high-pressure release.
  5. Release: After depressurizing, the operator releases the actuation mechanism. The collet retracts, the seal disengages, and the FasMate FN lifts cleanly out of the bore—leaving the threads undamaged.

This entire sequence takes seconds. Compare that to the multiple turns of a wrench, application of thread tape, verification of proper engagement, and risk of cross-threading that every traditional threaded connection requires.
